External Codec Question

Postby Dawged » Sat Jun 08, 2013 2:00 am

Is there a reason why I cant select "external codec " in the destination file when trying to save a video in the Motion Detection options?

Is this a limit of my ip camera?

Yes, the external codecs are only available for USB cameras in WebCam Looker.

You might want to use the internal codecs for your IP camera then, or try Xeoma that allows to store video in the format of your choice, both for IP and USB cameras.

Is that also why I cant select a destination folder for video?

Im using an android phone for one of the cameras and I switched the software I was using on the phone to get it to the pc. Both apps made the phone an IP camera.
Now it wont let me select a destination folder.

I went from WO Webcam to IP Cam. I like IP cam better.

Xeoma is just a little too pricey for me.

You should choose 'Built-in codec' in destination settings, then you'll be able to change the default folder to store videos to.

Uncheck "Save to archive" box if you want files to be stored without cyclic over-writing.

Xeoma is not as expensive as you think. In fact, its free mode can be used free of charge for unlimited period of time! The trial mode is fully functional and can be used for 48 hours straight. Moreover, we offer many ways to get Xeoma licenses for free!

Surely, you will find an option for yourself. Hope this helps!

Thanks Admin! It did help.

I thought the "save to archive" meant "saving it" in general.

I realise now I can change the directory by unselecting that.

Usually I'm pretty good at tinkering but missed that one. Thanks again!
