Thank you for your question.
Xeoma supports an unlimited number of cameras. You may connect and use as many cameras as you want and as your version of Xeoma allows. More on Xeoma operating modes here.

Filters are functional blocks (or modules, as they are also called) you add in the settings window (for example, cameras, motion detectors, archive storage and so on). Simply put, when you run Xeoma, filters are icons in the top panel that represent this or that feature of Xeoma. You can click on them to add them to the work field, connect them to each other into chains and set them up.

4 filters are free. That means that you may build up a chain of up to 4 filters (with the limitation that only 1 of them can be a source filter) in the free version. Switch to the trial mode, define settings, build as long chains as you need and see how many filters (modules) are in use. This is the number of filters you will need to buy (minus 4 free ones).

Buying Xeoma filters you extend the number of filters you may use, and within this number you may use any filters you want, in any combinations. Moreover, once you buy any amount of filters, you get a possibility to use remote access feature to control your system remotely.

We hope that this will help. If you have further questions, we will be glad to answer them.

"Filter" term is renamed to "Module" now. So it is easy to understand its meaning. There are sources (cameras, microphone, Xeoma receiver, file reader, etc) modules, intermediate modules (like traditional filters: motion detector, scheduler, daylight detector, etc), and destinations (the modules doing alarm, save to archive, IP camera emulator, email sender, etc - according to chain of modules configured.
