Marking appears in preview but not in archive

I have the following module chain:

This is how it looks when previewing the video (which is exactly what I want):

But this is how it looks when I'm playing back footage from the archive - the two Marking modules I added aren't showing up in the bottom corners.

Have I got something wrong with my configuration? The documentation for the Marking module doesn't say where it should be inserted in the chain.

(Sorry- my account isn't enabled to post images or links.)

Hi Chris,

I assume it's because you're using dual streaming (aka "direct saving to the archive"). You see, the feature is meant for direct recording from camera to archive, with no influence from intermediate modules (except for motion detector).

So, if this is the case, and you have 1 stream for preview and another for direct saving, try unticking the box "Use this stream for direct saving to the archive". The records will then be taken from the 1st stream (preview stream), they will be in .xem (MJPEG, might take more place) but they will have the Marking you need.

Good news, we are working on enabling Marking for H264 records as well. In the latest beta version Xeoma 16.5.18 you can get 1 Marking in archive viewer even for H264 "direct" stream. For now it works for 1 marking module per archive and for records preview (no export). So, to try it, please disable/remove one of the Marking modules.

Does it do what you want?

Aha, I had just figured out that the Marking didn't apply to the H264 stream! Yes, you're correct - my camera has one H264 720p stream and one that I think is 704x576 that's used for preview.

The issue at the moment is that the D1 (704x576) stream is used for recording, the aspect ratio is 1.222:1 so it horizontally squashes the 720p stream which is 1.778:1 ratio. But it sounds like your new beta version might mean I can avoid this. In any case, the camera can produce its own timestamp on the H264 stream so I can use that as a fall-back.

I will try the beta version shortly and see how it works!
