Xeoma 16.12.26

Added activation of licenses on virtual machines. Now you can activate licenses on a virtual machine if it has permanent access to the Internet or there is an activation server in the home network

Can someone explain the reasoning for the above?

I have an ESXI 6 home lab and have for years run Xeoma standard on a VM. It runs on my DMZ and does not have Internet access. I'm now informed, when trying to upgrade that I either need to have a permanent Internet access to this VM or run an activation server?

It will prevent me from upgrading.

Hello, Doug!

Xeoma didn't support all VMs in previous versions. Some VMs accepted activation, other didn't.
Now Xeoma can be activated on all VMs, but the Server should have permanent Internet connection or physical machine with Internet in local network to install activation Server on.

You can try to update, but Xeoma might not accept activation again and you'll need to get back to the previous version.
Previously (before 16.12.26) we informed our users on website that license activation might not be possible on VMs due to their particular qualities.

I've just spent the last 30 minutes trying to get the latest BETA to activate, it would either tell me that my license is an upgrade license (In Russian) and that I needed to include the original license separated by a comma, and when I did that, it told me my license was too old!

Then changing the order of the license, it told me my license was activated on a different machine and follow the instructions on the website for activation problems.

You know what? I got away from Microsoft because of these types of things, just because I run a valid license on a virtual machine, I'm all of a sudden required to jump though hoops!

Not any more, I've reverted back to 16.8.17, and will start looking at other packages. Maybe BlueCherry.
