Ghosting Effect

Postby jamesfow » Tue Jul 25, 2017 1:53 pm

I recently purchased Xeoma and have updated to 17.6.23 Beta. I am getting a ghosting/blurring effect on the preview screen and recordings from many if not all of my cameras (6 Total). I have pulled up the web preview directly from the camera while looking at the preview on Xeoma. The image is fine directly from the camera but ghosted/blurred on Xeoma. The image is fine in Xeoma when there is no or little motion on the camera. I can't remember seeing this problem before I updated to the 17.6.23 Beta, but I will not say for sure that it didn't. I have some questions about the PTZ Tracking too, but I will put that in a separate topic.

Hello! Please check the server's load when you observe the artifacts. Are there any CPU, memory or network usage spikes? Could you post the parameters for one of the streams you use (format, resolution, FPS, bitrate)? You can also try copy-pasting one of the URLs in VLC player and check if it shows similar artifacts.

Thanks for the reply. I currently have 5 active cameras. I do see the same ghosting effect with VLC player, but do not on web viewer. Being that it happens in VLC player too, it must not be a Xeoma issue. Are my camera settings too high? I did not notice the issue in my previous software, would I need to change some settings in the stream parameters?

Information with Xeoma Running
Network Utilization - 60-80Mbps
CPU Usage - Hovers around 20%

Information with Xeoma Stopped
Network Utilization - 0 (Idle)
CPU Usage - 3-5%

One of the Camera Feed's
1920x1080 25 FPS h264 4Mb (What link shows)
1920x1080 12-25FPS h264 6-7Mbps (Actual from Xeoma Screen over a period of 1 Minute)
Current Bitrate in camera config is 7004

Artifacts are usually directly tied to bitrate. Around 7 Mb/s should be enough for a stream like that. However, there are considerable fluctuations since it goes as low as 6 Mb/s. You can check the camera's admin page to see if there is an option to choose the type of bitrate. We recommend using CBR (constant bitrate), as opposed to VBR (variable bitrate).
VLC should also allow you to keep an eye on actual bitrate for any given moment: Tools - Codec information - Statistics tab.

I just turned down the frame rate and bitrate. It seems to have solved the issue. Thanks for the help.
