Understanding the email module

Postby Thomsus » Tue Aug 21, 2018 8:41 pm

Hi everyone.

I'm new to Xeoma. Have set it up, configured it, works like a charm.

The first part, the mail server settings, mail body text etc. makes perfect sense.

The remaining part however, don't make sense to me; time interval, picture counter etc. Anyone who dares to explain? :-)

Hello! Let's go slider-by-slider:

Prerecord - if you want the picture or video to capture something before a detector is triggered, set it to a few seconds.

Count as one several consequent events that happened during - this is best described with an example:
-the motion detector detects something for 5 seconds, then after 10 seconds - something else for 5 seconds
-if the e-mail is set for the interval of 5 seconds - you will get 2 messages (2 different events detected)

If you know that detectors can trigger often in your situation, and you don't want Xeoma to flood your e-mail account with messages every few seconds - this is the slider that allows Xeoma to compress all the triggered events into a single message.

The delay interval for adding pictures/videos - if you have any attachments to the e-mail, this will force Xeoma make those not immediately upon a detector triggering, but with a delay.

Time between message - this decides how often Xeoma can send you messages; in the above mentioned scenario of a flooded mailbox this would also help, but all the potential messages in between will be ignored and lost. (N.B. this timer takes priority over the rest; if e.g. the delay between images is greater than this timer - you will still get messages, but no attachments)

Thanks, nice with the explanation.

What about the image settings just below those settings you list (when attaching one or more pictures to an e-mail)?

These depend on the attachment's type:

Images
How many pictures to attach - if you need several photos from the camera, specify the number per e-mail.
Time between images - if there is more than 1 photo, set the interval for the camera to take snapshots at.
Send only the latest images captured during this time - relates to the previous option; use this to see only the very end of an event that triggered the module.
Max message size - most public e-mail hosts have a limit for the overall size of a single message (all attachments included); you can set this to the same value as that limit, so that Xeoma keeps it in mind.

Videos
Framerate - how many frames per second you want the video to have (cannot be greater than the stream's original parameters from the Universal camera).
Duration of video - how long you want the video to be.
Max message size - see previous entry by the same name.
