SOLVED: "Current Level" in Motion Detection Module Erratic

Postby rdsherwood » Tue Sep 19, 2017 1:54 pm

I am running Xeoma with 3 IP cameras, two Momentum and one Amcrest.

The two Momentum cameras have no issues, The "Current Level" bar in the motion detection module rests around 2 to 5 unless there is motion in the frame.

The Current Level of the Amcrest camera continually jumps from around 10 to about 80. The motion is very quick, it doesn't stay at one level for more than a fraction of a second. It is pointed at a door, so there is nothing in the frame to generate motion unless something moves into it. Other than this, the camera works fine, the video images from the camera look great - no other problems.

Obviously it is very difficult to set the Sensitivity Threshold when the level continually jumps from ~10 to ~80.

I assume it is picking up noise, but I don't know how to go about identifying, debugging or fixing it.

Here is a link to a video of the Motion Detection module setup screen showing the Current Level bar of this camera: https://photos.app.goo.gl/d9v0SlQqcuu613cr2

Sorry for the handheld video, but it gives you the idea.

Any suggestions on how to proceed in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Please note the time-stamp in the top right corner (see attachment). Since it is applied to the footage by the camera itself, Xeoma analyzes this part of the frame as well. As such, it reacts to numbers changing every second.
The easiest way to fix this is to exclude this area from the detection zone. Alternatively, you can turn time-stamps off on the camera's admin page.
Incidentally, that is why Motion Detector's default settings keep the upper and lower part of the frame empty - those often hold time-stamps and other markings.

I love the simple solutions. I excluded the time stamp from the detection zone, and it works perfectly.

Thank you! Problem fixed.
