H.264 Camera Support

Postby darrenw2112 » Mon Feb 18, 2013 9:59 pm

Can you hook up a camera which outputs H.264 to this system (like a foscam FI9821W or a D-Link DCS-6511) ? And if so, will it just record this stream to the hard drive (at the FPS you specify in the program) so that it does not have to re-encode the video?

It will compress the stream anyway. That is why it's better to use MJPEG streams when available like in D-Links if the HDD space allows that. The quality, reliability will be enhanced then with CPU load not that intensive.

Is there an updated list of cameras that are supported? Many of the models that are listed seem to be older.

This is simply an official list of devices that Xeoma was tested for compliance with. If your device is not on the list, it doesn't mean Xeoma will not work with it. It's just that we haven't yet tested this particular camera and haven't received compatibility reports from users. Go ahead and try it in Xeoma in the trial mode - this way you don't risk anything. Even if there are some issues, tell us and we'll help you.
