Adding sound to video feed?

Postby CraziFuzzy » Sun Sep 26, 2021 3:36 pm

So I use Image Resize into Web Server to produce a video stream that I can pull up on my television of one of my cameras. I'd like to be able to have an audible notification on motion from this stream. It seems like the Sound Alarm module is not appropriate for this, as it is limited to playing a sound from the actual server or client. Is there a way to inject a sound file into the actual camera stream on a trigger?

Hello and thank you for using Xeoma and your question!

The Sound Alarm module can play sounds on the server side or on the client side (only in Xeoma Pro). Why do you feel this is not appropriate for a motion notification? You could have a client on that device that you'd like to get an alarm to, unless of course it's an unsupported device.

If that's a smart phone we're talking about, you could also use the Push notification for a mobile phone (available in Standard): https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/articles/mobile-notifications/ The feature gives an alert configured for all alerts in your phone/tablet, so it might be a sound too.

If you're describing a kind of two-way audio where the audio file is played on the camera side, we don't have that yet in Xeoma, and when we add it, it will be probably for just a couple of cameras, or for ONVIF-supporting cameras that can play sounds at best. So not for all cameras, unfortunately. The camera must be able to play sounds AND receive commands to do so for this feature to work so the range of such cameras will be limited.

You can subscribe to our newsletter to know when it's available: https://felenasoft.com/en/subscribe/

Is that what you were looking for? Or did you mean inserting a sound file into the recorded camera feed? (if the latter - why?)

I am viewing the stream on an Android TV device, using another app to stream from Xeoma's web server module. This allows scaling to be done on the server and the lower resolution stream send to the tv, as well as adding a text overlay and other such alterations from within xeoma as I desire. This is why I am looking for a way to put the sound as a stream in the video (that is ultimately encoded by the webserver module). If it is able to do this, then the tone can still get to the TV, while not being stored in the archive.

And yes, I have tried the Xeoma Client for Android on the android tv, but it is useless without a mouse or touch screen, as simple arrow and click navigation is not supported - which was reported well over a year ago.

Hello!

To add sound to your Android TV, you can use the Microphone module: https://felenasoft.com/xeoma/en/articles/microphone-module-audio-surveillance-vss/ Add it to the chain and connect it to the Web Server module. This will capture the sound with the help of a microphone and add it to the preview stream and the archive stream.

I'm aware of the microphone module. The request here was to be able to have something similar to the alarm module that can render sound on trigger into the stream.
