Motion detector missing events

Postby jrmymllr » Mon May 01, 2017 6:41 pm

Is it conceivable that the motion detector can sometimes completely miss an event that is easily within the size and timing limitations?

I have a camera pointing at a door that I know someone walked out of, but it didn't record anything in the archive. Another camera that points to part of the path shows them leaving the area and they could have only come from that door. It was a family member so I can verify it.

30 minutes later it recorded a visitor walking to the door, so it works. And it has always triggered on this type of thing before, including small animals, so I find it odd that it was missed.

There was no crime committed or anything like that as it was a family member, but I found it a bit shocking that nothing appeared the archive even 30 minutes later. It's the most recent beta running on Linux, with a total CPU load of around 15%.

Hello! What is the FPS for the preview stream on your camera? Low FPS can sometimes account for missed movement. You may also want to use "Problems Detector" to make sure that the stream from the camera is consistent. Does the camera have day/night filter? If so, did this happen with night mode on?

Framerate is 8, and I do have a problem detector set up to email me if the image disappears. Camera does have auto day/night filter, and it happened during the day with good lighting.

It's possible the camera's video was gone during that time, but not all that probable.

You can setup different FPS in camera's admin page in browser to see if it helps. You can also adjust 'Motion detector' module's settings according to the upper right corner inscription 'Skipping' (motion is detected) and 'Not skipping' (motion is not detected).

You can check 'Problems detector' and turn on replying about the problems with server and camera's image and connect e.g. 'Sending email' module to it.
